Andrew Jackson statement about the doctrine of nullification.
"I consider...the power to annul a law of the United States, assumed by one State, incompatible with the existence of the Union, contradicted expressly by the letter of the Constitution, unauthorized by its spirit, inconsistent with every principle on which it was founded, and destructive of the great object for which it was formed."
Let Texas and any other state try to secede or use nullification and interposition. They will be met with the force of our true nation, our true patriots and true Americans.

Show me the "letter of the Constitution" that prohibits secession. No such thing.

I'm no scholar in this topic or anything but I think the premise of that statement was about the supremacy clause in the constitution. Article VI Clause 2.
ReplyDeleteThen as a counter point you have the 14th Amendments' Privileges or Immunities Clause which, depending on the interpretation, gives the states permission not to enforce certain laws.
As to that last part of mine, when people hear or think secession they should be remembering the Civil War. Its one thing to be assertive of states rights but if one state or so would leave the union they need to think about all the resources they would be having to do without.
In a time when country unity is needed, fragmenting itself from the inside isn't the best use of our time.
